What to Submit
Your package should have three main elements: a sketch/drawing, a written submission, and supporting reference materials. Here’s the details:
The Drawing
This can be a hand-drawn sketch on a piece of paper and photographed, OR a digital art piece done in any program of your choice. The idea is to communicate what you want your tattoo to look like, as best you can. The judges will not be choosing winners based on artistic skill, so don’t worry if your drawing isn’t professional. It just needs to roughly communicate your amazing tattoo idea. Rachelle can do the artistic work for you if your idea wins!
Format: JPEG, PNG, or PDF
Resolution: 72 DPI minimum
Size: 8.5 x 11 (a piece of paper)
Style: Color or black & grey (your choice!)
Your design must be:
Your own original work (No AI)
Something you’d actually want tattooed on yourself
Free of copyrighted characters, logos, or trademarked content
Appropriate and non-offensive
The Written Concept
The writing portion should be between 500 and 3000 words, approximately
What you must include:
- Intended placement on your body and approximate size
- A description of the subject matter that you want to see in your tattoo (flowers, skulls, birds, pizza, whatever it is!)
The rest is open and up to you, but consider some of the ideas below to inspire you to write a $10,000 piece!
What does this tattoo mean/represent? Tell us the story behind the tattoo, why you’d like it done, what it means to you. Why is this your dream tattoo? What makes it personally significant to you? Are there any stories of history that this tattoo draws from? Is there any special elements, symbolism, or style choices you’d like to see? How does use of colour add meaning to your tattoo?
Writing tips:
- Be authentic and personal
- Tell YOUR story
- judges want to understand what makes this meaningful to you
- Be specific about placement and size
- Explain your artistic choices
Supporting Materials
Please include some or all of the following:
- Reference images or mood board (can use examples of other artists’ work or real photographs)
- Color palette or tattoo style references
Optional: Preliminary sketches or development work
